An unemployed man to be tried in Sessions Court for theft

KUCHING: An unemployed man from Kampung Asajaya Ulu, who claimed trial to a theft charge, will be tried in the Sessions Court here from Aug 11-13.

Judge Dayang Ellyn Narisa Abang Ahmad maintained the trial date yesterday during pre-trial case management for the case involving 30-year-old Norshahrizan Junaidi.

The accused will be tried under Section 392 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail and a fine or whipping.

Norshahrizan allegedly stole RM200 from a 19-year-old behind the Puspakom building in Pending around 1pm on June 19.

The complainant was heading to work when the accused allegedly stopped him and asked for money.

After being told that he had no money, the accused allegedly grabbed the victim’s wallet from his back pocket, took the money and fled on a motorcycle.

The victim immediately lodged a police report and the accused was arrested at a residential area in Demak Laut around 6.30pm on June 19 by a team of police from the Kuching district police station.

DPP Poh Yih Tinn prosecuted.
