KUCHING: Two college students from Mukah were injured after they were targeted by snatch thieves near Taman Stutong Indah in Tabuan Laru on Monday.

The 24-year-old male student and 20-year-old female student were heading back to their rented house around 7.30pm after breaking fast when two men on a motorcycle rode up to them.

The rider is said to have pretended to ask for a lighter for his cigarette before the pillion rider grabbed hold of the male student’s sling bag, which only contained a power bank and his student card.

The suspects then sped off and caused both students to fall on the road, with the male suffering scrapes to his arm and the female sustaining a gash to her forehead.

Both victims later sought medical attention prior to lodging a police report of the incident.

Meanwhile, another snatch theft saw a woman losing several hundred ringgit and a mobile phone in front of her workplace in Padungan yesterday.

The victim in her 40s had just arrived at her office and was in the process of opening the main door when a man approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag.

The suspect then took off towards a motorcycle parked nearby and sped off before the victim could do anything to stop him.

She subsequently lodged a police report and supplied a copy of the footage of the incident, which was captured on the office’s security camera, to aid in the investigation.
