KUCHING: SMK Batu Lintang is inviting parents with expertise in their respective fields of professionalism to volunteer in school to help motivate and encourage learning in children.

The school Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) chairperson Chew Ching Kwang made the appeal in her speech during the association Annual General Meeting (AGM) held at the school hall recently.

“This is in line with Sarana Ibu Bapa Programme outlined in the Malaysia Education Blue Print 2013-2025,” she highlighted.

Among the activities to be included are conducting motivation seminars and career guidance talks that could help students strive for better performances in their academic and co-curricular activities.

Chew was pleased with the encouraging attendance for the meeting when over 150 parents and 138 teachers of the school turned up.

“We hope parents will continue to support the PTA in cash and kinds,” she said.

“One way to support children’s education is by attending the PTA meeting and other school activities,” she added.

Chew encouraged parents to come forward and help the school authority in areas they were best in.

“For instance, parents who are good in carpentry works could assist the schools in repairing students’ chairs and desks,” she said.

She pledged that all the PTA committee members will continue to work hard for the betterment of the students and the school in general.

The PTA, she added, has contributed by helping the school to apply for funds to build the covered walkway, raising funds for various infrastructure projects and supporting the school’s activities such as the annual academic and co-curricular excellence awards.

She pointed out that the PTA’s support must be seen as a crucial element to complement the school’s effort in educating the children

Chew thanked principal Hajah Saftuyah Haji Adenan and teachers for their untiring efforts in providing the best education to the students as could be seen from the outstanding results obtained by the students in public examinations including STPM, SPM and PMR in recent years.
