KUALA LUMPUR: The curfew imposed since July 19 in waters off the Sabah East Coast has created a safer environment for Sabahans.

Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Jaafar said it was a wise move to combat intrusion by foreign elements in the Sabah East Coast.

“Despite the curfew, relaxation is given to certain parties as long as they get permission from district police chiefs. “However, so far we have been strict about the curfew and hope local residents get written approval from district police chiefs,” he told reporters after delivering his Aidilfitri message, here yesterday.

On July 19, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman declared a curfew from Tanjung Pundaras, Sandakan to Tawau jetty until Aug 2 from 6pm to 6am. — Bernama
