Kompia stall spared from fire next door

SIBU: A home-operated stall at Tiong Hua Road that serves one of the best kompia in Sibu escaped destruction by a fire that broke out at a semi-detached house next door.

An upstairs room caught fire at 2.30am yesterday and it burnt through the roof, slightly damaging the next door house with the kompia stall.

According to neighbours, a family was renting the house next door to the kompia stall.

They said the rent was cheap as the unit was built on land that was subsiding.

The house without electricity supply had neither a gate nor a fence, and the living room lacked a front door.

The neighbours said before the fire broke out, they saw a group of teenagers beat up a teenage boy from the family staying there.

They ask whether the group of teenagers had returned to burn the room, and hope police would investigate as they fear the group’s return if it was a case of arson.
