KOTA BAHARU: An iron-ore mining worker was sentenced to 16 years’ jail by the High Court here yesterday, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder involving a co-worker, about two years ago.
Mohd Zaidi Abdul Hamid was found guilty of committing the offence on Mohd Yusof Zakaria in front of the iron-ore mine canteen in Lubuk Setol, Pasir Mas between 9.30am and 9.40am on Sept 8, 2012.
According to the original charge, Mohd Zaidi, 39, was accused of murdering Mohd Yusof, 43, under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
In his decision, Justice Datuk Azman Abdullah said the court found that the offence did not amount to murder and sentenced Mohd Zaidi under Section 304 (a) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Earlier, Mohd Zaidi’s counsel, Cheang Chu Yong appealed for a lighter sentence for his client as he was young and married with two children. — Bernama
