It is owned and operated by Hock Peng Organisation — a diversified group involved in property development, construction, hotel and retail business.

The group’s managing director Datuk Toh Chiew Hock, wife Datin Lau Ai Lang and deputy managing director Pemanca Dr Francis Toh Chiew Peng were among those attending the opening ceremony.

“We have another Medan Hotel near the bus terminal at Pahlawan Road to cater to the needs of the people in that area,” Dr Toh informed reporters after the ceremony.

“Medan Jaya is a big area. We have a supermarket and many shophouses here, but not a hotel so we decided to build one.”

He said the new hotel has an ideal location with no traffic jams. The eight-storey building has 136 rooms, two meeting rooms, a cafe, and an open space for functions.

“One of the meeting rooms is on the top floor which could accommodate about 80 people and another one at the basement can take in about 150 people,” he said.

Rooms are from RM98 nett onwards inclusive of breakfast.

The group also operates Medan Hotel in Betong, Li Hua Hotels in Sibu, Mukah and Bintulu.
