KAPIT: Going by the response from the rakyat especially at the grassroots level, local entrepreneur turned politician Datuk Kristoffer Nyuak Bajok believes that BN can wrest the Pelagus seat from the opposition.

He gave this observation after his recent visit to three longhouses; namely Rumah Puso, Sungai Encheremin and Rumah Sekudan, Ulu Pelagus and Rumah Sadang, Ulu Metah last Saturday.

Up to date, Nyuak has covered most of the Pelagus constituency, though the next state election may be still far away.

He felt that it was always good to know the constituents thoroughly, so that when time came for the election, BN would be fully ready to face the opposition.

“Since last year, I have been moving vigorously in the constituency and my presence is always well received by the community.

“Every place I went, there were always the same voices heard from voters and the response toward the BN government has been always good.

“And they want the new BN candidate to wrest the seat from the opposition in the coming election,” he added.

Among the locals here, Nyuak is known for his humbleness, easy approach and readiness to assist – an attitude that makes him very much liked by the communities in the constituency.

The journey to the three longhouses took Nyuak and his entourage four hours by land along a timber track.

He was accompanied by his wife Datin Serani Magai, Penghulu Esit Nalo (Beketan community leader), Penghulu Uga Esop, Penghulu Geruna Mawan and several longhouse chiefs from Pelagus constituency.

Last Sunday, Nyuak was invited by TR Jandok, Ulu Sungai Yong to perform a ceremony for the new longhouse.

Among the several longhouses he visited last week, he said, was Rumah Ama, Nanga Metah, Batang Rejang, one of the remotest longhouses in Pelagus constituency at the border of Kapit and Belaga districts.

Over there, he said, a big crowd of some 300 people including 34 headmen, community
leaders and several members of other BN component parties turned up for the night-long gathering.
