KOTA KINABALU: A mother, who went to withdraw money from a bank, found herself locked out of her own vehicle when her young son fell asleep in the passenger’s seat, oblivious to his frantic mother and bystanders’ calls and attempts to wake him up.

Security personnel and members of the public try all sorts of ways to wake the little kid up.

Security personnel shines a torchlight on the boy’s face, but could not wake him up.

The incident happened around 10pm on Wednesday.

It was learnt that the boy’s mother had left her eight-year-old son alone in her Toyota Avanza vehicle with the engine still running while she went to withdraw money from a bank at Jalan Pantai here.

When she returned, the boy had fallen asleep in the vehicle.

The mother, members of the public and security personnel tried all sorts of tactics to wake the boy up, including shining a torchlight on his face, calling him to wake up, rocking the vehicle, knocking on the window, making noise by slapping the bonnet, all to no avail.

The idea of breaking the car window was raised by the security personnel and some members of the public, but it was dismissed.

After 20 minutes or so, the boy slowly woke up from his slumber and was shocked to see the number of people surrounding the vehicle.

Nonetheless, it was a moment of relief for the young mother.

Upon instruction by the security personnel, the boy rolled down the passenger side window, giving access to the security personnel to unlock the passenger door and the door on the driver’s side.

The mother subsequently drove away after thanking the security personnel and members of the public profusely.
