KUCHING: A foreign worker was critically injured after he was stabbed in the neck during a street robbery at Jalan Semaba on Wednesday night.

The victim, a Bangladeshi, was walking back to his quarters with a fellow countryman after buying groceries at a supermarket at Mile 4 1/2 when the incident happened around 9pm.

Padawan district police chief Supt Pauzi Bujang, who confirmed the case, said two men in a white Proton Saga car pulled up alongside the foreigners and demanded money from them.
After relieving the pair of over RM100, they demanded for the victim’s mobile phone and when he refused, stabbed him in the neck with a small knife.

The robbers then sped off from the scene while the uninjured friend ran back to his quarters to seek help.

The victim was rushed to a private medical centre where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, and is reported to be in stable condition following treatment.

It was learned that the victim’s friend was able to jot down the licence plate number of the robbers’ car, and that police are tracking down the vehicle.
