Joggers alarmed by sight of ‘corpse’

KUCHING: Early morning joggers from Tiya Vista and adjacent Riveria Parks in Kota Samarahan were alarmed when they spotted what looked like a corpse in a drain near a recycle-bin station yesterday.

The ‘dead body’ found in the drain.

Upon taking a closer look, they were relieved it was only an effigy made with clothes and stuffed with rubbish and plastics.

“This must be made by some naughty fellow to prank people. It did manage to scare some people and residents here,” chuckled pensioner Vincent Ong.

Another resident, a 40-something housewife who declined to be identified, said she was about to throw waste into the recycle centre and when something in the drain caught her attention.

She almost screamed as she thought it was a dead body.

“It looked so real. When I realised that it is not, I just laughed myself off. It is funny and I wonder who put it there. It does look like it was put there on purpose.”

Some of the residents claimed the effigy had been there for quite some time already, but since it was not blocking water flow they did not bother to call in the council.

Another sickening prank is that of the Jalur Gemilang being flown upside-down on a street lamp post near the road junction leading to the two housing estates.
