KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Gas Bhd’s subsidiary, Kimanis Power Sdn Bhd (KPSB), has started the commercial operations for its second block of its Kimanis Power Plant (KPP) on July 22, 2014.

In a statement yesterday, Petronas Gas said the second block was expected to add an additional 95 megawatt of electricity to the Sabah Grid.

“This is an addition to the 95 megawatt already generated by the first block, which started operating on May 16, 2014,” it said.

Petronas Gas said the plant utilised natural gas from offshore Sabah.

“The three-block 300 megawatt gas-fired power plant is a key project in the ‘Power Up Sabah’ initiative, established under the Malaysian Economic Transformation Plan,” it said.

The KPP, one of several petroleum- and energy-related projects developed by the Petronas Group in Sabah, is anticipated to contribute significantly to the reliability and security of power supply in the state, once fully operational.

Petronas, through Petronas Gas, owns 60 per cent of Kimanis Power while NRG Consortium (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Yayasan Sabah owns the remaining 40 per cent. — Bernama
