The 38-year-old suspect was arrested at an apartment in the district by a Customs Department narcotic team about 2.45pm.

It was said that during the arrest, the suspect was carrying a package and upon inspection, it was found filled with cannabis.

The suspect was then brought to his residence not far from there, which led to the discovery of two other packets of cannabis in the bedroom.

Sabah Customs Department director Datuk Dr Janathan Kandok yesterday said the arrest was made following tip-off from the public on vice activities carried out by the suspect.

Janathan said also detained was a 30-year-old Filipino woman to assist investigation into the case.

Further investigations will be conducted to find out whether the suspect was involved in a syndicate or other crimes.

He also pointed out that the arrest was an encouraging achievement for the Sabah Customs Department as the previous arrests for similar offences were normally made at terminals or airports.

“The case will be investigated under Section 39B (Act 234) and Section 15 (1) (b) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952,” said Janathan.
