SEMPORNA: Tourists are still coming to the east coast of Sabah for vacation despite the spate of abduction cases in the area.

“Love it, enjoying the stay,” said Sanne Chessnie, 47, from Denmark who is with her family here at Mabul Island for a six-night stay.

Sanne and her husband Brian Bodholt, 50, arrived here on Thursday together with their children.

“There are eight of us, two families,” Brian said, adding the security is good when Semporna member of parliament Datuk Seri Shafie Abdal asked them about their holiday at Mabul Resort.

They said they could not wait to dive at Sipadan and they are enjoying their stay though they heard of the recent shooting and kidnapping incident at a nearby resort.

Belgian couple Karine Paesen, 49, and Andre Hendrickx, 44, are on a five-day holiday at Kapalai and both have no problem with the presence of military personnel there.

“We arrived here two days ago after our visit to Kuching. There we heard about the incident, but we came here and saw the military and felt safe,” said Karine.
She said her husband would be diving though he had a motorcycle accident a few years back while she would be snorkelling.
