KUCHING: Those interested to take part in the the Kuching Festival Street Parade can still do so as entry form submission deadline is extended to Aug 15.
According to a press release, the much missed activity is back after absence since 2008 due to unforseen circumstances. It will be held on Sept 6.
This year, the event is open to the first 70 contingents. Each contingent must have at least 20 members and not exceeding 100. Entry fee is RM100 per contingent and all participating contingent will be given a certificate of participation. All contingents are to assemble at the starting point next to Jubilee Ground and only allowed to disperse after the Grand Stand march-past at Padang Merdeka.
Each participating contingent must provide four of its members to act as marshals to help maintain control over their contingent, help co-ordinate movement and to help maintain clearance of the route.
In the event any entries fall short of the required number, prizes will not apply but the organising committee reserves the right to give any other reward.
The parade is divided into four categories, Cultural Troupe, Fancy Costume, Fancy Costume (Junior), Marching Bands and Others. First to fifth prize is RM5,000, RM4,000, RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively plus trophy for Cultural Troupe, Fancy Costume and Fancy Costume (Junior) categories and three consolation prizes of RM300 each.
For Marching Bands and Others category, first to third prize are RM5,000, RM3,000 and RM1,000 respectively plus trophy and three consolation prizes of RM300 each.
Judging is based on technical/construction, aesthetic value, material aspiration, concept (theme) and finishing.
Entries must be submitted on the official entry form, obtainable from MBKS Ground Floor Security Counter or download from www.mbks.gov.my.
Completed entry forms must be returned to co-ordinator, Kuching Festival Street Parade, 1st Floor, Engineering Division, MBKS.
