PETALING JAYA: The Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Ministry has not received any report or complaint on shortage of essential items during Ramadan and with the approaching Aidilfitri celebration.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, said from monitoring of business premises nationwide by the Federal Agriculture Marketing Authority (Fama), the situation was under control.

The ministry, he said, had made early planning to avoid a situation that could lead to shortage of essential items like rice, fish, chicken, meat and vegetable.

“We always monitor the supply and this year. We have made early preparations, like for Ramadan and Aidilfitri, we add another 10,000 import of cows.

“As for chicken, although there is enough in the country, we also open to importers. If there is not enough supply, we will import,” he told reporters after launching the Aidilfitri Special Farmers’ Market here yesterday.

Also present were the ministry’s secretary-general, Datuk Mohd Arif Abdul Rahman, and Fama chairman Tan Sri Badruddin Amiruldin.

At the function, Ismail Sabri also gave ‘duit raya’ to 110 orphans from the Baitul Hidayah Orphanage in Puchong and the Rumah Anak Yatim dan Asnaf Solihin in Banting. — Bernama
