SEMPORNA: Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Ramlee Marhaban wants all mosques in the state to diversify their activities and not to limit their roles only on religious issues.

He said they needed to hold other activities that could educate and increase the local community’s income in line with current needs and requirements.

“The mosque institutions can play a big role in developing the ummah in all aspects of life such as educating the people by providing opportunities that can benefit everyone.

“Hence, I hope that they will not restrict their role only to religious issues as such an approach will merely result in Muslims being seen as backward and behind the times,” he said.

He was speaking at the presentation of donations to Masjid Kampung Rasak Llima Gulung Sejadah, Masjid Kampung Sungai Barung Pembesar Suara, Masjid Kampung Siaban and Masjid Kampung Panji here Saturday night. — Bernama
