BN not concerned about crisis in PR

SIBU: The state Barisan Nasional (BN) is not bothered by the crisis brewing in Pakatan Rakyat (PR) as the ruling coalition is more concerned about serving its constituencies and winning back those it lost in the last election.

State BN secretary-general Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi said this when asked if DAP’s threat to pull out of PR over PAS’ stand on the implementation of hudud law would have positive bearing on BN come the next state election.

“Whatever problems they face will not affect BN’s focus on our effort not only to retain our seats but also to recapture the lost seats.

“The recent unsettled party elections in PKR and DAP are indicators of what the future will be if they are given power to rule this country more so with the completely different ideology and aspirations… chaotic I’m sure,” Dr Rundi, who is Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricity and Telecommunications) told The Borneo Post.

DAP resolved at a state-level meeting here last Sunday to stop attending all activities hosted by PR and PAS with immediate effect until the two conditions set by them for PAS were met.

State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said the two conditions were that PAS reverts to the common policies of Pakatan manifesto in the last general election and that PAS would not pursue the implementation of hudud in Sarawak.

This prompted state PKR chairman Baru Bian to sound the warning that state DAP’s threat to pull out of Pakatan Rakyat (PR) over PAS’ stand on the implementation of hudud law could unravel the opposition front.

Baru reportedly said his party would do its utmost to iron out the differences over the hudud issue among the opposition coalition partners to prevent PR from falling apart.

Meanwhile PBB supreme council member Datuk Daud Abdul Rahman when met by reporters on the second day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri at his residence yesterday said the state DAP has the right to pull out of PR .

However, Daud stressed that the crisis in PR was its internal problem and had nothing to do with Barisan Nasional (BN).

“This only shows that the PR coalition has no understanding and cooperation among themselves,” said Daud.

He added that that PR was in disarray especially in Selangor over the tussle of the Menteri Besar seat which only goes to show that PR was not capable of governing the country or state.

This he added was in stark contrast to BN which had shown great leadership and cooperation among all the coalition parties.

“If there are any issues in BN, we will solve it using our own concept of cooperation and talk,” said Daud who is also Tupong state assemblyman.

He also said that the people could now see for themselves the true colours of PR which he said had no principle and leadership strength.

Sarawak has 71 state seats, of which 55 were won by BN in the last state election in 2011.

PR on the other hand, has 15, with DAP making the bulk with 12 and PKR, three.
