KUCHING: Police are hot on the heels of three accused persons for failing to turn up in court.

State Police Commissioner Datuk Wira Muhammad Sabtu Osman said warrants of arrest had been issued to Ramshah Mohd Ramlan, 23, from Kampung Tabuan Tengah, Mohamad Sukmarulnizam Ademan, 23, from Taman Tabuan Park and Mohamad Fadilah Jamil, 34, from Kampung Tabuan Melayu who needed to be arrested before today (July 30) for mention of their case.

He therefore urged members of the public with any information on them or their whereabouts to alert the police so that they could be brought to court.

“We believe that they are still in the city because all of them are unemployed… it will cost them much to abscond from the city, I think the chances of them (to flee) is slim. We hope the arrest can be made before July 30,” he told reporters when met at his Hari Raya open house at his official residence at Jalan Maxwell here yesterday.

He was commenting on news report that the High Court here last week had summoned the three accused persons for a mention of their case for sentencing.

The three suspects however failed to appear for the case which was supposedly to be mentioned in a Sessions Court but at the very last minute was made in the High Court.

Previously, Sessions Court Judge Allaudeen Ismail deferred judgment on the three accused to Sept 10 to give them time to spend the holy month of Ramadan and Hari Raya with their families.

Ramshah was released on RM6,000 court bail while Sukmarulnizam and Fadillah were each released on RM4,000 court bail.

They were also ordered to report themselves to the nearest police station every third week of the month pending the disposal of the case prosecuted by DPP Stella Augustine Druce.

All of the accused persons are facing a maximum 20 years in jail and whipping under Section 326 of the Penal Code.

The victims, Nicholas Gandik Ningkan and Casspetra Bawok Aldrin aged 19 years old, were seriously injured when they were attacked by the accused persons with three other persons who are still at large when trying to stop them from stealing their friend’s motorbike. The incident allegedly occurred in front of a college here.

The incident was recorded on a CCTV installed at a security house and went viral in social media.
