PRS president to go by consensus

KUCHING: PRS President Tan Sri Dr James Masing said he would go by the rules and the unanimous decision when it comes to whether United People’s Party (UPP) would be admitted into Sarawak BN.

“I believe we can arrive at a solution within six months. It’s a question of whether we have the political will,” he told reporters during the Chief Minister’s Hari Raya open house at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) on the first day of Raya.

Masing was confident it could be done but added that the decision must be for the good of all.

“Don’t just do things for self-interest.”

At the same time, Masing pointed out that there would be groups that would oppose the idea like SPDP and SUPP.

“If I’m a member of the BN contingent, I will abide by the rules of the game which must not be changed to serve a particular purpose,” he said.

“You cannot allow that to happen. The rule is there to keep us intact. That is why we’ve been intact for 40 years. We do not change for convenience’s sake or to accommodate people.”

On the recent aviation disasters, Masing reminded people to pray for both MH17 and the still missing MH370.

“We know what happened to MH17 and I’m very sorry. But we should also remember MH370. If I had a relative on MH370, I’ll feel a bit sidelined if you don’t remember.”
