Ipoh police arrest three men and solve 10 cable theft cases

IPOH: Police have solved 10 cable theft cases in and around Ipoh following the arrest of three men in three separate houses in Desa Tambun here last Monday, said Ipoh district police chief ACP Sum Chang Keong.

He said one of them were arrested in front of his house at 4pm after receiving a complaint from a Perak Water Board (LAP) security guard in Jalan Kolam Tasek at about 2.11pm when he chanced upon the suspect who was carting away cables into a Perodua Viva vehicle.

“The security guard reprimanded the man causing him to flee with the vehicle. However the security guard managed to take down the suspect’s car number and subsequently police managed to trace him in his house,” he told reporters here yesterday.

With his arrest, Sum said police found 10 Celcom cables, worth RM10,000, that were stolen from the vicinity.

Following the suspect’s arrest, police also detained two of his accomplices in the same area.

One of the suspects, aged 37, was arrested at 5pm while another man, aged 53, was arrested at 5.45pm at their houses in the area.

Sum said police investigation revealed the stolen cables would be burnt to obtain copper wires before being sold to recycled shops.

Meanwhile in a separate case, he said police managed to foil an attempted robbery at a hardware shop near Jalan Kuala Kangsar here at 3pm last Sunday by two Vietnamese nationalities.

He said the police was cooperating with the Perak immigration office to check on the background of the two suspects, aged 24 and 31, including for criminal records. — Bernama
