The musicians, who arrived here on Wednesday with a delegation from the Guro District Council of Seoul Metropolitan City, will stage two performances — ‘Samdo Samulnori’ and ‘Samulpangut’ — in the vicinity of Dewan Masyarakat at Jalan Padungan.

Led by Guro District Council vice-chairman Sho Ho-Hyeon, the delegation and musicians paid a courtesy call on Kuching City South Mayor Datuk James Chan yesterday.

Chan said the city is honoured that the Guro District Council had brought the musicians here to observe and respect the Friendship Agreement signed between the Korean Council and the Kuching City South Council (MBKS) in November 2012.

“We are very pleased to have you here to perform for the people of Kuching. Oh, they will love it,” he said.

A dance group from Zhenjiang, China is also expected to arrive today (Aug 1) to take part in the festival.

Chan said Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem, State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohd Morshidi Abdul Ghani and State Legislative Assembly Speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar would receive the Korean delegation today.

“Many Koreans are building infrastructure in Kuching City. There has been talk as well to have golf and baseball training in Kuching during the local winter time in Korea.

“We also welcome Guro District Council to bring business people to Kuching to forge partnerships, especially in the IT industry since Guro is an IT city in Seoul,” he said.

Guro district is located in the southwestern part of Seoul.

The Guro Industrial Complex, created in the 60s, has developed into the largest digital industrial complex in Korea.

It is the hub for Korea’s high-tech industry, which continuously focuses on research and development, high-tech knowledge and the information industry. More than 80 per cent of Guro Industrial Complex companies are involved in IT, with a total production of about 5.5 trillion won and an export of about 1.5 trillion won.
