KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development is committed to improving the quality of life of the people, specifically the target groups.

Its minister Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim said their target groups comprised women, families, children, people with disabilities (OKU), senior citizens, disaster victims, the poor, and welfare voluntary organisations.

Speaking at the state-level ‘Majlis Jalinan Kasih Aidilfitri’ open house at Dewan Majma’ Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah yesterday, she said such events would foster ties between the ministry and the targeted groups, especially those who need love and care.

“At the same time, this will let them know that there are still people who are concerned and care for their problems,” said Rohani.

This year’s ceremony was graced by Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem and wife Puan Sri Dato Jamilah Anu.

“Out of respect for victims of the Malaysia Airlines crash, Hari Raya open houses to be held by ministers have been cancelled.

“However, we were given the blessings by the prime minister to organise this ‘Majlis Jalinan Kasih Aidilfitri’ open house on a moderate scale to celebrate Hari Raya with target groups including the needy,” Rohani
said.

Works Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof, Assistant Minister of Community Development Datuk Peter Nansian, Deputy State Secretary Datu Ose Murang and family members of MH17 victims were among those present.
