Although he is not setting any target of winning the championship, the Bintulu Golf Club representative said he will try to do his best and enjoy the game.

“It will be a different ball game in this Amateurs and there is a good field out there, with keen competition expected to come from KGS golfers. Furthermore, I do not know the strength of participants from Sabah and Semenanjung Malaysia,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Sigar said some of the KGS golfers to watch out for are Sarawak Golf Association president Hoan Kee Hock, Herman Bulang and Michael Lim as well as Ling Soon Kiong from Sibu Golf Club.

“The KGS golfers will be enjoying the home ground advantage and they will also be going all out for a good showing in the championship,” he added.

One thing that worries him will be the wet greens as it has been raining for two days in Kuching.

“I did not do well in the last two competitions at KGS on the wet courses,” he said.

One hundred and twenty golfers will be vying for top honours in this event starting today and ending tomorrow.

KGS are fielding the most number of entries at 66, Bintulu (13), Miri Golf Club and Damai Golf and Country Club sending seven golfers each, Samarahan Country Club and Sarawak Junior Golf First Association sending four each while Sibu Golf Club and Prisons Golf Club are fielding three players each.

There are seven participants from Miri, five from Sabah Golf and Country Club, four from Kelab Rahman Tunku Putra Malaysia and one each from Awana Golf and Country Club, Kelab Golf Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah, Tiara Melaka Golf and Country Club and Kinabalu Golf Club.

Sanctioned by the Sarawak Golf Association, the championship is open to all senior golfers aged 55 years and above on August 2, 2014 with a current USGA/NHS handicap of 24 and below.

It is aimed at promoting and upgrading the standard of senior golfers as well as strengthen the ties and camaraderie among the golfers.

There will be 10 prizes each for the gross and nett categories as well as hole-in-one prizes.
