65 killed, over 100 injured in East China factory blast

NANJING: A powerful factory blast killed 65 people and injured more than 100 in China’s eastern Jiangsu province early Saturday, Xinhua news agency reported.

The incident happened around 7:37 a.m. inside a wheel hub polishing workshop in Kunshan City, the city government said.

More than 200 workers were at the site when the explosion took place.

Rescuers retrieved over 40 bodies from the site and about 20 victims have died in hospitals.

Injured victims suffering from burns are being treated in hospitals in Kunshan and nearby cities of Suzhou and Wuxi.

Investigation is under way.
