SIBU: The Sibu Table Tennis Association (STTA) are on the radar again as it begins another search for a professional coach to guide the players.

Its chairman Dr Clement Chen said the existing one from China, who had under performed, had his services terminated before the expiry of his one-year contract.

“As such, we have no choice but to go all out to look for another coach to guide the local players,” he said when contacted.

Chen was appealing to the table tennis associations in the state to render help to STTA to look for a new Chinese coach.

“We may even send somebody to China to look for a good and experienced coach,” he added.

According to Chen, the existing coach from China was a very experienced one, having coached in Taiwan for the past four years and had also produced countless of stars.

“However, during his 10 months’ stint with STTA, he just failed to perform, hence giving rise to lots of brick bats,” Chen noted, reiterating that the association had no alternative but to terminate his service.

Nevertheless, Chen noted that the table tennis standard here had improved substantially of late, largely due to the hardworking local part-time coaches who had shared their experience with the players.

“However, we still have a lots of catching up to do and hopefully, the new coach will help bring about a revolutionary change to upgrade the standard of the players here,” he suggested.

Chen said Kuching had two Chinese coaches while Miri and Bintulu had a Chinese coach each over the past few years.

“We are aware of our shortcomings and that is why we feel that a coach will provide the inspiration to help elevate and boost our morale and believe that we are a force to be reckoned with in the table tennis fraternity,” he said.

Stating that it was STTA’s top priority to engage a professional coach, he added: “Just look to Bintulu and Miri. They are rising rapidly largely due to their Chinese coaches.”
