SIBU: Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Adenan Satem on Sunday disclosed that Dr Annuar Rapaee would get to defend his Nangka seat for Barisan Nasional (BN) during the coming state election.

Adenan (right) hands over a mock cheque to the mosque rebuilding committee chairman Dr Annuar Rapaee. The state government gave a grant of RM1 million of which RM500,000 is for the building of infrastructure at the new Muslim cemetery site at Kemuyang while another RM500,000 for the renovation of Masjid An-Nur.

He said judging by how well Dr Annuar spoke when delivering his speech earlier, the latter was the right choice.

“For that reason come the next state election in one to two years’ time, we have no other choice for Nangka,” Adenan said to the thunderous applause from the crowd of some 1,000 people at the ‘Majlis Ramah Tamah Aidilfitri 2014’ for Sibu Division at RH Hotel here on Sunday.

Earlier in his speech, Dr Annuar noted that he was half way into his term, and called on all community leaders, the party machinery and government agencies to assess his performance in the past two to three years.

“We want to know if the promises and plans made for Sibu people had been fulfilled.

“That is why, these two to three years are a crucial period to ensure the implementation is done smoothly,” Dr Annuar said, adding that he would continue to work hard.

On another matter, he stressed on the importance of education, saying he had set up a special secretariat to look into education matters.

He said the initiative had borne fruit as could be seen by the good results achieved by SK Abang Ali, a school attended mainly by Bumiputera pupils.

He recalled that 20 of the pupils achieved straight A’s in five subjects in the last UPSR.

Meanwhile, he expressed relief at the announcement by Minister of Housing Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg that the government had approved 600 acres for a modern village here under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP).

He also mentioned about 33 houses would be constructed in Kampung Datu Baru, with priority given to fire victims of Kampung Datu/Hilir.
