His Majesty and Princes Performed Tahlil for Late Parents at Royal Mausoleum

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN: His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and the Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has attended Tahlil ceremony for the Monarch’s late parents; Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien and Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit. The ceremony took place yesterday at the Royal Mausoleum, ©BRUDIRECT.COM reported.

On arrival, His Majesty was greeted by the Yang Dipertua Adat Istiadat Negara, Yang Amat Mulia Pg Lela Cheteria Sahibun Najabah Pg Anak Hj Abd Aziz Pg Jaya Negara Pg Hj Abu Bakar and the Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pg Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammed Pg Hj Abd Rahman.

Also present were His Majesty’s princes; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Abdul ‘Azim, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik, His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Wakeel. Also attending were other members of the royal family.

The ceremony began with the recital of Surah Al-Fatihah led by the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awg Abd Aziz Juned. The recitation of Tahlil and Doa Tahlil was also led by the State Mufti.

His Majesty then poured the “air asah-asahan” (scented water) on the tombs of His Majesty’s late parents. Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien Sa’adul Khairi Waddien passed away the Muharram 3 1407 Hijrah corresponding to the September 7 1986. Al-Marhumah Duli Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit passed away on the Syawal 20 1399 Hijrah corresponding to the September 13 1979.

His Royal Highness the Crown Prince also poured the scented water over the tomb of Al-Marhum; followed by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Abdul ‘Azim and then by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik. His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen then took his turn at the ritual followed by His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Wakeel.

Al-Marhum Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien became the 28th Sultan of Brunei after Al-Marhum’s brother, Sultan Ahmad Tajuddin Akhazul Khairi Waddin passed away in 1950. Al-Marhum was well-known for his caring and affectionate attitude and far-sightedness. Among the significant development during Al-Marhum’s rule include the establishment of the State Constitution, introduction of policies concerning education, religion, security and communication, as well as the welfare of the people of the country.

Also attending the ceremony were Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran-Pengiran Cheteria, Cabinet Ministers, Members of the Legislative Council, Deputy Ministers, Pengiran-Pengiran Peranakan, Pehin-Pehin Manteri, Manteri-Manteri Pedalaman, Permanent Secretaries as well as senior government officers.
