Man killed, three injured as car plunges into ravine

BELURAN: A man was killed while three other persons sustained serious injuries when the car they were traveling in went off the road and plunged into a ravine at Kilometre 48, Beluran-Telupid bypass yesterday.

District police chief Superintendent Sivanathan Velautham said the vehicle with seven members of a family, went of control before plunging into the 10-metre deep ravine on the right side of the road.

It was learnt that the victims were on their way back home to Kota Kinabalu after a holiday in Tawau.

The driver, Diong Mohd, 58, died at the scene in the 2am incident, while the three injured passengers were identified as Musa Yasin, 62, Nazirah Jarib, 19, and Norainah Diong, 26.

Three other passengers, including two children, were unhurt.

All the injured victims were admitted to Beluran Hospital.

Police are investiging the case under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
