CIMB Islamic Bank donates RM1 million for Gaza fund

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Islamic Bank has donated RM1 million to Medical Relief Society Malaysia (MERCY) which is providing relief in the devastated and conflict-razed Gaza strip.

Executive Director of CIMB Islamic Bank, Badlisyah Abdul Ghani said he hoped that the donation would assist towards bringing relief to the Palestinian people living in the area.

“We are deeply sad and concerned by the suffering endured by them. We also pray for the end of the conflict and violence as too many innocent lives have perished,” he said in a statement issued today.

MERCY will use the donation to provide much needed immediate medical assistance as well as to assess other needs of the affected population, includion food and nutritional matters.

According to statement, the donation would also be channelled to fund MERCY Malaysia’s collaboration with United Nations Relief and Work Agency for Palestines Refugees (UNRWA) which provides multi-services for Palestine victims.

“We are thankful for the unceasing work that these NGOs perform to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians and refugees”, Badlisyah added.

President of MERCY Malaysia, Datuk Dr Ahmad Faizal Perdaus received a mock cheque from Badlisyah in solemn ceremony at bank’s headquarters here, today.

Also present were Executive Director of MERCY Malaysia Ahmad Faezal Mohamed and Country Representative of UNRWA Malaysia, Hartini Zainudin.

MERCY is a non-governmental organization (NGO) focusing on providing medical relief, sustainable health related development and risk reduction activities for vulnerable communities in both crisis and non-crisis situations. — Bernama
