KUCHING: The killing of two young British medical students early Wednesday morning should not be a deterrent for members of the public including tourists not to patronise the many night spots and attractions at the city’s golden triangle area.

Minister of Tourism Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg said there was no point in pointing fingers as security at the main tourism spots and attractions in the city was always beefed up including the deployment of police personnel.

“The early Wednesday morning incident is an isolated case. Let the police do their work,” he told reporters when he visited Minister of Welfare, Women and Community Development Datuk Fatimah Abdullah’s Hari Raya open House on Wednesday.

“Let the authorities investigate the matter and I know justice will prevail.”

Abang Johari believed the case was not pre-empted and despite the tragedy the golden triangle was a prime area of the city and was generally safe for the public.

He acknowledged though that the killing might have some impact on tourist arrival in the city but the number could be insignificant.

He urged the people not make a big fuss out of the tragedy as the police knew what to do.

“We hope that local and foreign media will not play the issue and blow it out of proportion,” he said.
