MIRI: The Miri City Council (MCC) has put down 482 rats under its rat extermination programme, which began three weeks ago.

MCC Rats and Dengue Control sub-committee member councillor Bruce Chai said the campaign would be expanded.

“This is a significant figure for the campaign.

“It shows the effectiveness of the campaign in ensuring that trading and food premises are clean and free from rats,” he said yesterday.

Chai said coffee shop operators have been collaborating well with MCC on the campaign.

Under the campaign, the Miri Coffee Shop Association distributed some 100 rat trapping tubes and 50kg of rat poison to coffee shop owners.

The trapping tubes were filled with rat poison, wrapped with paper and left at rubbish disposal areas.

“Looking at the success of the campaign, we will distribute another 100 trap tubes to food stall operators and markets here soon,” said Chai.

He urged associations and clubs here to participate in the campaign to ensure greater success.
