TENOM: Rural Development Minister Datuk Radin Malleh said the state government had built 9,249 houses under the Housing Aid Programme (PBR) for the needy since 2010.

He said the rising demand reflected by PBR applications every year showed that people in the state were increasingly enjoying the aid facilities more than ever before.

“Besides PBR, various poverty alleviation programs which provide entrepreneurial opportunities in local products, planting crops and others in the state have been intensified to improve the lives of this group,” he said when opening the annual general meeting of the Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Melalap branches held at Datuk OKK Sanggau Jalang hall here on Saturday.

Radin, who is also Melalap assemblyman, said with such measures, the needy would no longer be dependent on government assistance in the future as they can continue their lives with the opportunities provided by the government.

He also said there was a slight delay in the construction of a new bridge near the Sabah Murut Cultural Centre due to land problems with a private company here and hoped that discussions with the company would bear positive result.

The central PBS vice president cum Melalap divisional chief also hoped party members both old and new, must work together and struggle proactively with the party’s top leadership.

“We want all members of PBS to collaborate for the welfare of the people in this country, especially the interior and any problems should be discussed in order for unity in the party to continue to strengthen,” he said.

During the event, 50 new members of the party branch in Kampung Tukalilan, Ulu Sumbiling, Kasiai and Oloson Nalansitan in Melalap joined Barisan Nasional through PBS.
