Lundu council conducts a study visit with MPP

KUCHING: The Lundu council made a study visit to Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) on Aug 11 headed by its chairman Hamsien Atar, deputy chairman and secretary Phang Joon Foong.

The visitors were welcomed by MPP chairman Lo Khere Chiang and acting secretary Elizabeth Loh and councillors and senior staff. They were briefed on how MPP functioned, the areas the council covered and how it was upgraded from Kuching Rural District Council in 1956 to a municipality on August 1, 1996.

The visitors were was also briefed on how all 32 councillors in MPP were allocated each zone under a resident councillorship system and were given an allocation of RM6,000 each. In their roles, they have to attend to complaints, solve problems and organise community development activities.

They were informed that all councillors had to organise their own activities on community development assisted by their area officers.

The visitors were also briefed on how MPP organised events and tourist activities with the help of Ministry Tourism Sarawak. They also learnt how MPP organised tourism and sports activities and attracted foreign tourists to participate in events like the Borneo Highlands Resort Nature Run and the recently organised Padawan Raft Safari 2014 which was a success.

The visitors were informed that MPP had organised five of their six events starting with the Padawan Fest, Sejijak Mini Regatta 2014 and the Pesta Telaga Air which will be held in November 2014.
