Pakatan Rakyat not a registered party — Selangor

MB SHAH ALAM: Selangor Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim has hit out at those who question the status of the state government led by a menteri besar who is now an independent assemblyman, as “they don’t realise that Pakatan Rakyat is not a registered party”.

He said these people, particularly Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP leaders, should be aware that they did not come together under one registered political party.

“The state government, led by me as the menteri besar who do not represent any party after being sacked as a member of PKR, is made up of various political parties although four of the state executive council (exco) members are from PAS and another from PKR.

“People have asked me about the status of the state government and I said all the political parties were in…DAP, PKR, PAS and even Umno, so there’s no problem.

However, everyone should remember that Pakatan Rakyat is not a registered body,” he told a news conference after chairing a state exco meeting, here yesterday.

On Monday, the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah consented to Abdul Khalid remaining as menteri besar after he was sacked from PKR.

Four state exco members from PAS remain to serve under Khalid’s leadership while five others from PKR and DAP stated that they would carry on with their duties but would not be supporting Khalid as menteri besar.

Their stand made through a joint media statement yesterday resulted in Khalid sacking the five, Elizabeth Wong Keat Ping and Dr Daroyah Alwi from PKR and Datuk Teng Chang Khim, Ean Yong Hian Wah and V Ganabatirau from DAP.

Khalid said the main reason for their sacking was their statement had contradicted the 10 Akujanji or undertakings and oath of loyalty they had made before the Selangor Sultan when they were sworn in as exco members, besides refusing to cooperate with him (Khalid) despite the Sultan having consented to him remaining as menteri besar.

The sacking, however, did not involve another state exco member from PKR, Rodziah Ismail, as she was said to be overseas. — Bernama
