KUCHING: Former Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Muhammad Salahuddin and his wife, Toh Puan Norkiah, attended Unimas’ Hari Raya Open House at DeTAR Hall recently.

Salahuddin (centre) hands over the Jalu Gemilang to Solhi.

The hall was decorated with 16 different replicas of Malay kampung houses, and there was an eclectic spread of traditional Malay dishes such as ‘nasi kerabu’, ‘nasi ambeng’, and ‘nasi dagang’ for the guests.

The highlight of the gathering was the handing over of the Jalur Gemilang by Salahuddin to Unimas board of directors chairman Datuk Dr Hatta Solhi in conjunction with the nation’s 57th year of independence.

In his speech, Unimas vice-chancellor Dato Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi urged those celebrating Hari Raya not to forget the plight of the less fortunate in the community.

“Let us also not forget those who perished in (Malaysia Airlines) flight MH370 and MH17,” he said, and this was followed by a minute’s silence to remember those who lost their lives in these two air disasters.

On the country’s 57 years of independence, Kadim said Malaysians must not forget those who had sacrificed their lives fighting for the country.
