AirAsia X unveils new aircraft livery

KUCHING: AirAsia X Bhd (AirAsia X) yesterday unveiled its new exclusive aircraft livery for the 21st Airbus A330-300 named ‘Xcintillating PhoeniX’ at the Airbus Aircraft Delivery Centre in Toulouse.

The aircraft is the fifth Airbus A330-300 delivery out of the seven deliveries for 2014.

According to a press release, AirAsia X launched a social media contest aptly named, ‘AirAsia X: Paint the Plane’ to commemorate the delivery of its 21st A330-300 aircraft.

Participants were required to choose one out of seven names option provided by AirAsia X as the guideline for their design. The designs were judged based on their creativity and relevancy that best elucidates the AirAsia X extraordinary brand.

Following thorough evaluation process, Denzel Yap Shuet Lih was announced as the winner of the contest and won himself a trip of a lifetime to Airbus headquarters in Toulouse and be the first to see his design on AirAsia X’s aircraft.

Azran Osman-Rani, chief executive officer of AirAsia X said, “We are euphoric to welcome Xcintillating PhoeniX as our 21st A330-300 aircraft from Toulouse. The livery design by Yap showcased our company’s values of being bold, different and vibrant.”

“We look forward to receiving the remaining 2 aircraft for this year, which will definitely open up new opportunities for AirAsia X. Deliveries of new aircraft will fortify our stand to expand further in Asia Pacific and gain first mover advantage.

With a true wide-body fuselage allowing very high comfort standards, the A330-300 is able to accommodate 377 seats with class configurations that cater to the diverse customer requirements. It has a range of up to 6,100nm / 11,300 km with a full passenger load.

Highly efficient and optimized for the medium to extended range market, the A330-300 offers the best balance between range and cost. At the moment, A330-300 remains the most economic means of flying on medium range routes in true long haul comfort.

AirAsia X was the first long-haul, low fare carrier to introduce Business Class Flatbed seats, which have standard business class specifications of 20’ width, 60’ pitch and stretch out to 77’ in full recline position.
