KUCHING: A man was handed over to the police after he was caught red-handed stealing scaffolding at a site at Airport Road here yesterday.

The suspect, from the Stakan area in nearby Kota Sentosa, was spotted by security guards around 8am removing the items and placing them at an isolated section of the site next to his motorcycle.

The guards immediately pounced on him and contacted the police, who arrived within minutes to take the suspect into custody.

He was initially brought to the Simpang Tiga Police Station for questioning before being placed in lock-up pending further investigation.

In a separate case, police arrested two suspected car thieves and recovered a stolen four-wheel drive vehicle from a house in Petra Jaya late Friday afternoon.

The 23- and 24-year-old suspects, both from Stutong Baru, were detained by a team from state police headquarters following a tip-off that the pair had gone to a house in Semariang to visit their girlfriends.

Police subsequently recovered an old Mitsubishi Pajero- reported stolen in Tabuan Park the previous day- and detained the pair in lock-up for further investigation.
