KOTA KINABALU: Luyang assemblyman Dr Hiew King Cheu is now officially an MCA member after receiving a lifetime membership card from the party president, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, two weeks ago.

Hiew, who disclosed the latest development on his position yesterday, said that he had not officially met the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Musa Aman, to inform him about the matter, but he believed the state BN chairman would be acknowledging his new status as a BN state representative.

“Datuk Seri Liow said that since I am already holding a MCA membership card, I am officially an MCA member, and he also said I am already a BN member.

“I hope the other BN component parties in Sabah will accept me as one of them, and hopefully, we can work together to retain all the seats that were lost to the opposition in the previous general election, especially Sri Tanjung, Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu and the other seats as well.

“A few days ago, PBS secretary general Datuk Johnny Mositun said my (MCA) position is not yet approved by the state BN, but I was told by our president not to worry because MCA is a BN party,” he said.

Hiew, who has already started operating his office under the MCA name, said he had been receiving overwhelming response from the grassroots, especially in Luyang and Kota Kinabalu area because his decision to join BN had stopped a lot of conflicts involving the development in his constituency.

“What I can say now is that there will be more development in Luyang and more projects will be coming in that will benefit the people as a whole.

“My decision to join BN is not just the matter of being a pro-BN but about benefiting the people,” he added.

Hiew said this to reporters during the Merdeka Day event at Kepayan Ridge, where he distributed more than 600 Jalur Gemilang to the villagers at Kampung Kepungit and residents of Kepayan Ridge Apartment.
