Driver killed in night collision with loaded 18-wheeler lorry

SIBU: A man died after the Toyota Vios he was driving crashed into a lorry laden with oil palm kernels at KM21 Sibu-Bintulu Road Sunday night. Su Sieng Yih, 35, from Tanjung Batu, Bintulu, was driving alone when the tragedy struck at 9.30pm.

He is believed to have lost control of his car and crashed into a tyre of the eighteen-wheeler truck coming from the opposite direction.

The car spun and hit the tyre of the lorry again before it was flung 20 metres away and landed in a roadside ditch. The impact of the collision caused the tyre of the heavy vehicle to burst.

The lorry driver lost control of his vehicle which crashed landed on its side on the road. However, he was unhurt.

Oil palm kernels from the toppled lorry were also scattered on the road, causing a traffic jam along the road.
