Police foils subsidised fuel smuggling

BANJARMASIN, South Kalimantan: Directorate of Special Criminal Investigation of South Kalimantan Regional Police has thwarted the smuggling of some 15 tonnes of subsidised diesel, Antaranews reported.

The diesel was to supply Central Kalimantan, Deputy Director of Ditreskrimsus Joko Purwanto said in Banjarmasin, Monday.

He  said police have seized two vehicles on August 13 along the Trans Borneo Road, Trantang area, Sub district Mandastana, Barito Kuala, South Kalimantan.

A suspect has been arrested.

Thousands of tonnes of subsidised fuel were believed purchased from various resellers in Banjarbaru at Rp4,800 to Rp5,200 per litre and can be resold at Rp9,800.

According to Joko, the suspect when charged, can be prosecuted under the Law Number 22 Year 2001 on Oil and Gas with a prison term of two years.
