CAIRO: Three members of Kelab Putera 1Malaysia (KP1M) humanitarian aid mission to Gaza succeeded in entering the Palestinian region, which has become the target of Israeli bombing raids, through the Rafah border gate yesterday.

They managed to do so at about 10am local time (about 3pm Malaysian time) yesterday.

This was confirmed by KP1M deputy president Datuk Mohd Farid Hassan.

He said they had travelled from Qantara heading for Rafah on Sunday using the Humvee type armoured cars and the mission leader, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, the Malaysian  Ambassador  to Egypt and Palestine, Datuk Ku Jaafar Ku Shaari, and the Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Dr Anwar Al-Agha had left from Qantara at 2.30pm on Sunday.

Seventy-eight other volunteers were not allowed to continue with their journey to Rafah on security reasons and had been ordered to return to Cairo.

The order was issued by the commander of the military command post in Qantara, located near the Suez Canal, after the convoy had been stuck for about five hours and discussions were held.

However, after travelling about an hour from Qantara, the three mission representatives had to stop and spend the night in Al-Arish on the same day because there were shooting incidents reported before they could continue their journey.

The mission, which was also participated by members from Mercy Malaysia and the Malaysian  Islamic  Organisations’  Consultative Council, planned to distribute  about  5,000 boxes  of food  supplies to  25,000 Palestinians as well as deliver medical aid to victims of the Israeli attacks in Gaza.

It was reported that almost 2,000 Palestinians were killed in the Israeli attacks on Gaza since July 8. — Bernama
