Depressed girl jumps off building in suicide attempt

The public helping the girl after she jumped from the first floor of a building in an attempt to commit suicide.

KOTA KINABALU: A woman could only look in horror as her younger sister leapt from the first floor of a building at Kepayan Perdana, near Cyber City at Jalan Lintas, Kepayan here, in an attempt to commit suicide, on Monday.

The 15-year-old girl is currently being treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), and is reported to be in stable condition.

It was learnt that prior to the 11.57pm incident, the girl had asked her elder sister to accompany her to the commercial centre to meet her friend.

After reaching the commercial centre, the girl walked up to the first floor of the commercial centre while her sister waited on the ground floor.

Several minutes later, the elder sister saw her younger sister climbing onto the railing and jumping to the ground.

Shocked with what had happened, the elder sister managed to seek help from the public who immediately called an ambulance.

City police chief Assistant Commissioner M. Chandra confirmed the incident and said the police were still investigating the case.

According to Chandra, initial police investigation believed that the victim was suffering from depression, prompting her to jump off the building.

“The victim is currently being treated at QEH for the injuries she had sustained in the fall.

“Police have been notified that the victim is in stable condition and we are still investigating the case,” he said.
