KUCHING: A restaurant waitress had to be rescued by her friends from a workers’ quarters after she was beaten up and taken away by her ex-boyfriend early yesterday.

The 17-year-old was asleep in her own quarters at Jalan Padungan when her former fling, also 17, barged into her room around midnight and began beating her up for recently ending their relationship.

He then forced her to follow him to his quarters at a construction site in Tabuan Jaya, but was soon confronted by the girl’s co-workers and friends, who were aware of what had happened and trailed them from behind.

The group proceeded to rescue the waitress and brought her to the police station to lodge a report.

Later the same morning, however, the ex-boyfriend himself went to the police station claiming his ‘girlfriend’ had been kidnapped by a group of men.

Police soon uncovered the truth after contacting the waitress, who later decided to withdraw her report against her jobless ex-boyfriend — a school dropout — after he apologised for his actions and promised not to bother her again.
