Poetry recitation competition encourages pupils to communicate in English

KUCHING: SJK Chung Hua No. 5 hosted the Kuching Division Inter-District Primary Schools English Poetry Recitation Competition at the school hall on Aug 18.

Some 12 primary schools from Kuching Zone A, Zone B, Padawan and Bau took part in this poetry recitation competition.

The purpose of the competition was to encourage the use of the English language to get pupils to express themselves in English.

SJK St Paul was champion, first runner-up SJK Chung Hua No. 6, second runner-up SK Kenyalang with SK St John, Bau and SK Rakyat Tupong winning the consolation prize.

Headmistress of SJK Chung Hua No. 5, Ho It Chin thanked the following for their support: Kuching District deputy education officer Thomas Kanyan, chief judge Angelia Lee, judges Rosita Lynda Boniface Nugi and Marcia Kathy Chamberlin, headmasters, teachers in charge, students and their parents.
