CIMB Thai, AIS collaborate for Thai mobile banking

KUCHING: CIMB Thai Bank Public Company Ltd (CIMB Thai) and Advance Info Service Public Company Ltd (AIS) yesterday vsigned a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise Thailand’s first business alliance between a bank and a mobile service operator.

With the MoU, CIMB Thai and AIS will collaborate to develop a suite of new banking solutions on mobile phones named ‘Beat Banking’. The official launch is expected in the fourth quarter of 2014.

Subhak Siwaraksa, president and CEO of CIMB Thai said, “Under the MoU, Beat Banking is targeted at the new consumers and will be developed to complement their modern lifestyle where mobile phones are an integral part of their daily lives.

“The first product to be launched under this initiative will be an electronic deposit account where customers can deposit, withdraw or transfer money easily anywhere and anytime.

“This is truly a milestone in the banking and mobile services industry in Thailand. Our partnership aims to enable consumers to access comprehensive banking products and services on their mobile phones.

“We expect to deliver a synergistic value proposition to the customers anchored on AIS’ deep understanding of the Thai retail segment and CIMB Group’s regional consumer banking know-how,” added Subhak.

Also present during the MOU signing were CIMB Thai senior executive vice president and head of retail banking group, Adisorn Sermchaiwong, senior executive vice president and head of strategy and finance Narongchai Wongthanavimok, AIS vice president of marketing Pratthana Leelapanang, as well as Advanded mPAY managing director Supreecha Limpikanjanakowit.
