They immediately rushed to Miri Central Police Station (CPS) to lodge a police report after the bizarre incident at around 11am.

According to the waitress known as Zha Zha, 33, she and her employer had just returned from a house in Taman Bumiko, when they chanced on the female suspect who was garbed in a ‘purdah’ (Muslim gown with a veil).

“She was climbing a house gate, which we thought was weird,” Zha Zha told The Borneo Post yesterday (Thursday).

Zha Zha and her employer then pulled over, curious to investigate.

“When we asked where she’s from, she was stunned, then composed herself to claim she was from an orphanage located in Kuala Baram and coming here (Taman Bumiko) to collect donations for orphans,” the waitress explained.

Zha Zha added that the suspect asked them for a ride to a bank in town.

“As we took pity on her, my boss and I happily allowed her into the van with us, until a few minutes later she flashed a knife from her bag, and pointing it at my employer’s neck, shouted ‘Keep on driving, keep on driving, don’t stop.”

Zha Zha, who was in the back seat with the suspect, said: “When I saw her threatening to hurt my boss, I immediately pounced. Yelling broke out among the three of us and during the struggle, she slashed me on my left hand. My boss managed to pull over and horn for help,” said Zha Zha.

During the 10 minutes of commotion, the suspect’s knife fell and she (the suspect) immediately grabbed her bag, looking for another knife inside.

“It was at that moment that I kicked her and she fled from the van,” said Zha Zha.
