Led by Datuk Bandar Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, the national day of mourning was held at the compound of the commission’s complex, which began with a poem recital.

In their black attire, Abdul Wahap together with DBKU management and staff then observe a minute of silence before concluding the ceremony with a special prayer.

The Datuk Bandar emphasised that DBKU had walked the extra mile by holding this ceremony to grieve, honour and pay respects to victims of the ill-fated.

“Our effort is a reflection of compassion towards the people, community and society; that we are part and parcel of society and we should love and care for one another.

“As Malaysians, we need to come together during this time of hardship,” he said.

Meanwhile, DBKU commission member Datuk Wee Hong Seng said although a minute of silence might not be able to do much in healing the pain of those who lost their loved ones in the tragedy, the move was a show of solidarity of Malaysians during such moment of grief.

“Let’s come together to show our love for the people around us.”
