KOTA KINABALU: British national David Atthowe and Indonesian Yusep Sukmana will be covering a distance of 2,500km on foot around Borneo, starting yesterday.

This project undertaken by Malaysia National Sikhs Movement (GERAKSIKH) Gold Heart Project, a charity arm of Artist Goldkartz and Nomadic Lion, is aimed to raise funds for the poor and underprivileged children in Malaysia, and particularly in Borneo.

The walk was flagged off by GERAKSIKH secretary-general Datuk Amarjit Singh Gill, witnessed by the local community of Tawau who were on hand to give them their support.

Ipoh-based lawyer Amarjit said the walk started off with a special prayer session at the Sikh Temple Tawau, in remembering the perished crew and passengers of flight MH17 which crashed last month and for the well-being and success of the walk.

Among the various places that have been planned for the visit are the Orang Asli villages and kampung schools where donations raised will be given to help them.

Amarjit said during their stops that were being planned, they would be getting local artists, Goldkartz, the Malaysian Bhangra Ambassadors, to come and entertain the villagers as part of their charity work, especially to those who lacked the basic necessities.
