SIBU: A father of eight who raped his 68-year-old mother-in-law was sentenced to 14 years’ jail in addition to 10 strokes of rotan by the Sessions Court here yesterday.
Mohammad Abdullah @Su Ngiek Tiing pleaded guilty to the felony charge framed under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code.
According to the facts of the case, at about 4pm on Aug 15, while the victim was sitting on the mattress in the guest room of her house in Kampung Jeriah, Jalan Oya, she was approached by Mohammad.
After pushing her down, he then rolled out the victim’s clothing before having sexual intercourse with her.
At that time, the victim tried to scream for help but her mouth was covered with a blanket.
Moments after raping the victim, the accused entered the bathroom before leaving the house.
The next day at about 7am, the victim related the incident to her daughter, Mohammad’s wife.
Her daughter advised her to lodge a police report which was subsequently made the following day.
The victim was referred to Sibu Hospital for medical check-up on the same day.
Mohammad was later arrested in the early hours on Aug 17 at the same house and was remanded for a week.
Investigation revealed that he had indeed raped the victim.
In mitigation, Mohammad who was unrepresented, pleaded for leniency, saying this was his first offence and he is married with eight children.
In passing sentence, Judge Indra Ayub took into the account of the seriousness of the offence committed.
